It happens in relationship—with people, community, land, territory, responsibility and purpose.

The Land-Based Experience brings the 3-Fires Leadership & Safety Institute framework into a place-based learning environment where the land, community and lived experience become part of the learning.

Rather than separating leadership from the environment in which it happens, this experience invites participants to consider how place shapes people, programs, relationships, safety and responsibility.

What can land teach us about leadership?

Through conversation, active learning, reflection and shared experience, participants explore the five 3-Fires leadership pillars:

🔥

LEAD — Lead with greater awareness, purpose and responsibility.

🔥

PROTECT — Protect people, relationships, community and land.

🔥

UNDERSTAND — Understand participants, community, environment and context.

🔥

BUILD — Build stronger teams, programs, relationships and connections.

🔥

CREATE — Create meaningful experiences that reflect place, purpose and the people you serve.

Leadership through land and community.

The Land-Based Experience creates a different kind of learning environment.

You will have opportunities to step beyond the office (or place of work), experience the environment, reflect on your practice, and consider how leadership is connected to the places and communities in which we work.

The experience can be particularly meaningful for leaders whose work is connected to Indigenous communities, youth, camps, recreation, culture, outdoor education or community programming.

Best for:

  • Community leaders
  • Emerging leaders
  • Camp and program leaders
  • Youth and recreation professionals
  • Cultural program staff
  • Community organizations
  • Outdoor and land-based educators
  • Experienced leaders seeking experiential professional learning

Learning that connects.

The Land-Based Experience asks participants to consider not only:

What do I do as a leader?

but also:

Who do I serve?

Where am I leading?

What relationships shape my work?

What responsibility comes with this territory?

What kind of experience am I creating for others?

Leadership isn't only something we talk about.
It's something we experience.

One Institute. One framework. Leadership through land, territory and community.

What's included:

  • Leadership & safety instruction and facilitation
  • 3-Fires Leadership & Safety Institute Certificate of Completion
